A Midwest Manufacturing Company

Relationship with OTC

9+ Years

Overview

This Midwest Manufacturing Company produces large-scale mining, and aggregate equipment used in quarries and mines.

Founded in 2000, their products include conveyors, feed hoppers, and bins, portable crushing and wash plants, fine material washers, vibratory feeders, horizontal shaft impactors, and other equipment. The Manufacturing company also provides custom engineering and fabrication services.

Over the past 9+ years, OTC has installed four ProMix 2KS plural component mixing systems at their Manufacturing facility.

Challenges

The Midwest Manufacturing Company utilizes its ProMix 2KS machines to mix paint and paint catalyst for the finishes applied to the heavy-duty equipment the company produces.

These complicated mixing machines use flow meters, and valves to properly mix material, and play an important role in the production process.

They did not have any preventative maintenance resources in-house for their ProMix machinery. Over time, this absence led to performance issues and equipment failures. Such breakdowns incur significant expenses and can critically impact a manufacturer’s capacity to meet delivery deadlines.

As a result of the equipment failures, the company employees had to resort to the manual mixing of paint and catalyst, a process that not only diverted them away from their primary tasks, but also introduced the risk of human error and lacked the precision of automated operations.

When breakdowns occurred, the company was called upon to repair the ProMix machinery on an emergency basis.

The Midwest Manufacturing Company recognized the necessity of a proactive approach to implement ProMix’s recommended preventative maintenance schedule. This strategy was essential to protect their capital investment, ensure peak equipment performance, and avoid costly breakdowns.

Solution

After evaluating other companies, the Midwest Manufacturing team chose OTC as their Preventative Maintenance partner for its outstanding industry reputation, and decades of experience providing a wide range of industrial solutions.

The OTC team created a customized Preventative Maintenance program designed to meet the Manufacturing Company’s specific needs. Now, each quarter, an OTC technician spends two full days at the company’s facility. The ProMix machines are serviced according to the manufacturer’s requirements. The units are fully inspected, and evaluated to ensure maximum performance and functionality. Calibrations and other settings are checked, and adjusted before the equipment is tested.

Results

The Midwest Manufacturing Company has benefited in several significant ways by partnering with OTC for their ProMix 2KS Preventative Maintenance services.

Equipment downtime has been drastically reduced, which has boosted production levels, and operational efficiencies. Precise mixing of paint and catalyst has minimized waste, and improved the consistency in product quality, reducing the instances of work needing to be redone.

Plant employees no longer misspend valuable working hours repairing broken equipment, allowing them to allocate their time to work on other tasks. Lastly, the company is now in a position to maximize the life span of each ProMix 2KS unit.
