Overview

A community water park in Midwest Missouri faced a critical challenge: their main water slide pump, a Pentair Aurora Single Stage End Suction Pump (Aurora 341), was inoperable just weeks before the park’s summer opening. With the season fast approaching and no time to waste, the city turned to OTC Industrial Technologies for fast, expert, and emergency pump repair. The OTC team responded immediately, demonstrating their ability to manage urgent municipal needs with precision and speed.

  • Customer: Community Water Park in Midwest Missouri
  • Relationship with OTC: 22 Years (Since 2004)

Challenges

The Aurora centrifugal pump suffered significant corrosion and operational wear, including cracks near the wear rings and damage to the volute, impeller, and stuffing box housing. A combination of factors likely caused this deterioration:

  • Water-induced erosion from years of use
  • Chemical corrosion from chlorine-treated pool water
  • Potential bearing failure or thrusting issues leading to mechanical stress

Adding urgency to the situation, the municipality required the pump to be fully operational by May 15, 2025 - just over two weeks from the initial service request. Delays were not an option.

Solution

Upon receiving the pump on April 29, 2025, OTC’s rotating equipment engineers immediately developed a plan to expedite the repair without sacrificing quality. Components were sourced the same day, and the repair scope was swiftly communicated to OTC’s skilled in-house shop.

The repair process included:

  • Machining and installing new wear rings
  • Repairing the seal housing and register fits
  • Balancing the rotating assembly
  • Cleaning and prepping old and new components
  • Pressure testing, painting, and performing full quality assurance

A key innovation came from OTC’s engineering team, who recognized that replacing the impeller would extend the repair timeline. Based on that finding they devised a plan to reinforce the existing impeller with new wear rings, allowing the city to resume operations without delay. Simultaneously, a new impeller was ordered and will be installed during a future service window, ensuring both short-term functionality and long-term reliability.

Results

Thanks to seamless coordination between OTC’s engineering, machining, and pump teams, the Aurora 341-BF pump was fully repaired and returned by the deadline of May 14, 2025, ready for immediate installation by OTC's field service team the next day.

Key outcomes:

  • Water slide operations restored just in time for the summer season
  • Zero downtime during peak operational needs
  • Long-term solution in progress with new impeller installation scheduled
  • Customer satisfaction driven by flexible, fast, and field-ready service

This project highlights OTC’s ability to rapidly adapt to municipal emergencies while ensuring high-quality, long-term outcomes. Even for smaller equipment, the OTC team delivered big results, ensuring that the city’s community water park opened on schedule and was ready for summer fun.
